Melasma, also called as chloasma, is a common skin pigmentation disorder characterized by symmetric brown to gray-brown spots and patches, on the face especially on the cheeks, forehead, bridge of the nose, above the upper lip and chin. It may sometimes appear on other parts of the body that are exposed to a lot of sun, such as the forearms and neck. Melasma is observed in both the genders, but it is more common in women and people with darker skin types residing in sunny climates. It generally becomes more noticeable in the summer.
The basic mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of this difficult to treat disorder is still not very well known. Despite the large number of depigmenting agents available, the treatment of melasma is often unsuccessful and disappointing and is still a challenge for dermatologists.
Dark Spots, Scar Marks, Burn Marks, Under Eye Dark Circles, Pimple Marks and Blemishes occur due to accumulation of melanin. These are deep-rooted within the layers of skin and tough fairness problems that ordinary creams cannot reduce.
Hydroquinone in Freia Anti Marks Cream is a tyrosinase inhibitor that works by blocking the action of tyrosinase, which inhibits the formation of melanin by melanocytes. It also increases the breakdown of melanosomes that contain the melanin. As the amount of melanin produced decreases the darkened skin gradually lightens to match normal skin color. Tretinoin in Freia Anti Marks Cream is an active metabolite of Vitamin A and is a keratolytic medication that works by binding to specific retinoic acid receptors in the nucleus of skin cells and affects the way skin cells behave, which regulates cell growth and differentiation. it also has anti-inflammatory properties. Tretinoin is thought to act by enhancing skin epithelial cell proliferation and accelerating epithelial differentiation. it also blocks the hardening processes of the outer skin layer (keratinization and cornification) and increases the shedding of old hardened skin cells, while at the same time promoting growth of new skin cells. The combined effect of these actions is to speed up skin cell turnover which has the effect of lightening the skin. Mometasone in Freia Anti Marks Cream works by blocking the production of inflammatory chemicals, like prostaglandins and leukotrienes, and also narrows and constricts causes blood vessels that have become dilated (widened) and leaky allowing other inflammatory cells into the skin to escalate the inflammatory response. The anti-inflammatory actions of Mometasone in Freia Anti Marks Cream reduce the risk of developing contact dermatitis that may be caused by hydroquinone and tretinoin. This combination of medications for treatment has been found to provide better improvement than treatment with a single medication.
